Also called Golden Obsidian this stone derives its name from an ancient Roman explorer called Obsius who was given a mystical black glass sphere from a volcano by an Ethiopian woman called Xenia. It is also called the “wizard stone” because it has been used since ancient times in many magical practices. Polished Obsidian mirrors were used for scrying and Nostradamus is reputed to have used a Black Obsidian sphere for scrying. It is an opaque volcanic glass that can be black, brown grey or green, the translucent variety from Arizona is referred to as Apache Tears. Obsidian has been used since Paleolithic times for making tools and weapons because it holds a sharp edge.

Obsidian is a natural glass that is formed from quickly cooled volcanic lava. As a healing stone it is used for protection as it absorbs and disperses negativity. Black Obsidian can bring negative emotions and unpleasant truths rushing to the surface, which have to be confronted before peace can return. Since it forms a shield against negativity it should be cleansed regularly in running water. Obsidian is believed to reduce the pain of arthritis, to help joint problems, ease cramps and aid digestion.

IMPORTANT: Spheres are measured with a measuring tape AROUND the circumference. While there may be a slight variance in the circumference measurement it will be minimal.
