This colourful copper ore is composed of copper and iron sulphides in the form of chalcopyrite and bornite. The tarnishing process, which created the multiple colours, was induced by acid treatment. Peacock ore is found in Mexico, the USA and Canada. Its colours are related to the quantities of iron (red), copper (blue-green), and gold-coloured pyrite and galena.
