A maraca is such a versatile instrument, meant to be played by anyone, young or old! This particular one is hand made in Indonesia from a Kenari seed pods secured to a Kalimantan hand carved handle. The sound is lovely!
This maraca is made up from multiple kenari nut shells, the incredibly musical seed pod from the yellow oleander tree, also known as the Whispering Tree because of the sound it makes when the wind blows its branches. The kenari seed itself closely resembles an almond and is native to maritime Southeast Asia, Northern Australia, and Papua New Guinea. The shells (pods) are often kept to turn into musical instruments due to the lovely, natural & soothing sound that they make while shaking together.
